I should be getting ready for an event but I needed to drop this in here while I’m thinking of it. Some months ago I posted a chapter as an excerpt: “Taking the Long Way Home.” Well, that Laguna Beach house that was the last place my mom lived with her father is now for sale for a mere $19 million. My mom has spoken of those stairs going down to the beach and I’ve just had to imagine them. Welp. I think those stairs would be the death of me now. How about a slide? I could do a slide.

I have a full draft of the book. 250 pages. 62k words. Though every time I look through my newspaper clippings and notes I think of more that I want to write. And then there’s the road trip up the coast that I want to take with my mom to see the different family sites: Santa Barbara and Carpinteria, Yubaville and Marysville, Tesla and Carnegie, Lincoln, South San Francisco, all the way up to Bellingham, Washington, where Rufus was born.
